Last month I was asked to perform at “A Night of 1000 Stars” (proceeds went towards Autism Speaks), before the show I was challenged to a “rap” battle. Well it wasnt what i thought, I was ambushed and here is how it turns out. For your viewing pleasure

Like so many other people across the world, when I rise in the morning I thank God for waking me up. Shortly there after I thank my alarm clock for assisting him by waking me up on time. Even though a lot of us arent morning people here are a few tips that I use to help you wake up refreshed even with minimal sleep.

1 – Properly set your alarm clock. Sounds stupid ay? But a lot of people dont realize that they are setting their alarm clocks to pm and not am. So I’m a lot smarter than you give me credit for.

2 – If you are a heavy sleeper, set two alarms (clock and phone) 5 minutes apart. This will help if you sleep through one or you can use the other alarm as a snooze of sorts.

3 – Put the alarm somewhere will you will have to GET UP to shut it off. If you keep the alarm right beside you in the bed, there is a chance that you will shut it off and then go back to sleep. Once your feet hits the floor, generally you are up.

4 – This maybe the most important tip (given to me by my friend Kish) so PAY ATTENTION. Face you alarm clock towards the wall, not towards you. Why? If you are like me and you get up during the night, you dont want to see what time it is. If you do you will psychologically makes yourself tired and here’s how. Let’s say you have to wake up at 6 and you get up and see that it is 2:30. You’ll think to yourself, aw man I have to be up in 3 1/2 hrs. Thus making yourself more tired. Now take the same scenario but with the clock facing the wall, you wont know that it is 2:30. You may think its 12 or 1. Either way you don’t wake up at 6 saying to yourself, dag i woke up at 2:30 and this is the reason I feel like this.

Works like a charm. These are just a few things I use to help me stay refreshed in the morning!

We dominated even though the score was 6-5 (they had 3 runs score in the last inning and a questionable run scored in the 2nd, neither here nor there). I think that Twitter is the devil. Not so much in being actually a spawn of Lucifer but more of the ability for anyone to use it and say nonsensical things. On top of the nonsense spewed, people have the audacity to stamp/retweet/accept it as gospel. Mind you, imma twitter fanatic. But, I use it to be my funny, jovial self. Its to the point people dont even know about my music because i very seldom talk about it on that site. So you may ask, D where is all of this venom coming from? Forgive me, Im just on my Mel Gibsy as @soBDC would say. Just something I was thinking about so I decided to get it off my chest. I guess im trying to say – stop taking that site so seriously & most of your music sucks! LOL I joke, I kid.

Speaking of Mel Gibsy, dude is officially of the HOOK! No lie… We all knew he was a bit of a racist. Now we know that he is a full blown racist. So, we get to hear a new tape of his every day ay? Nice! Let me admit that I have had multiple crazy rants in my day. But Dear God this man actually went on a tirade about not being serviced before he went into a jacuzzi. Say word? If any lady can make you go that crazy because she didnt hook you before she went to bed, you may want to leave her alone. That girl is POISON!!!!!!!! Shes dangerous!!!!!!!!!!! (Sidenote: For some reason, I think married women or women in relationships are sexy! LOL again I joke, I kid)

Im going to be out in Chi City next week. Yes, the same place that I told my daughters that when they are adults i was moving to. LOL (but im serious)! Have you ever been there? Its absolutely gorgeous. I may start house shopping next weekend for when I move there in 13 years. But the kicker is one of my best friends is flying up from Atlanta to go w/ me. So we are going to party and hit up the radio station to see whats good up there! Or is it over there? Hmmmmmm…. Good question? From looking at a map its prolly up and over there? WHO CARES

It was earlier today around 3:45 pm or so when Redhead sent me the the message that you had passed. I stood at the corner of Georgia Ave and Randolph and cried. I tried to compose myself just enough to send him a reply and then my emotions took control of me. As I write you this letter it is after 10pm and my emotions still seem to be in control. Most people dont know about how after my late night studio sessions, you would stay up and talk to me on the phone my whole trip home and then tell me to send you whatever I had laid so you could help me pick a track to release the next day. They’ll never know how you would get utter glee from making women believe that we were a couple when we would meet for drinks at a bar. Or how you said you would help me clean-up at my boy’s house when he had moved, yet when you got there you sat in the bay window and watched me clean up instead. Then because he didnt have anything in the house, we fell asleep watching DVDs on my laptop. So I cry. I cry because you, Tasha, Kream and I never were able to take our planned trip to Miami (then you cursed me because I took one on my own) and because we said that when you were better we would go hang out again; I cry because these days will never come. We were one in the same in that, I never dwelt on how bad you were feeling and you never told me. It was like we were saving each other the pain and rather talk about looking forward to the good times we would have when you became healthier. I even told Kream last night, she’s probably looking down saying “I wish D would stop crying already”! So, everytime the Skins play the Cowgirls, I’ll think of you and when some short little lady comes around the corner bumping reggae music, you’ll be on my mind. In the time we that we knew one another, you brought me such great memories. That’s because you were special!

Outside of my immediate family, you were the first person to know that I know I was moving into the “Manor”. You only wanted two things: 1. to help me decorate. But due to your health, you weren’t able to. And 2. you wanted your own room equipped w/ your very own air mattress (LOL). So not only do you have a place in my house, you will forever have a place in my heart!

You left this world way too early and I miss you already. They say that there is no pain in Heaven, so you’ll fit in perfect because you were always smiling down here.

Its midseason… Well almost! & life as I know it is good. My music is back to where it used to be, considering that I had to rebuild a mild buzz. Things are different though, I’m getting older. People always txt, email, tweet, fb chat me and say “yo, why you never on the radio anymore”? Goes back to what I said before, I’m older. Done exploiting myself for the sake of gaining a few more followers/fans. That’s old news. The most refreshing part about making music now is that I live my music. I never really rap’d about things I didn’t do, maybe I used to mildly over exaggerate. But now, 98% of the things I say in my music you can count as gospel. Though sometimes I do wish I was I was driving a new Maserati on i-95 w/ a phat butt indian woman on the passenger side (break for laff). Its kinda of like looking into a mirror w/ no streaks on it! What you see is what you get.

On another note – I hear the www.musicislifemagazine.com is making some major moves in the near future and Im glad to be apart of it.

Lastly, Im going to start working on my video soon! So be on the look out for that! It should be done by June and “The Boredom Tour” officially kicks off on April 30th w/ our 1st stop in Philly!

HipHop4Haiti will be a national event, here is the press release for the event that will be here in DC!

I hope to see you on Saturday at Hip Hop 4 Haiti National Day in DC at Layla Lounge 4-9 pm. But even if you can’t make it, there’s a very important way that you can support this cause.

In advance of the event, national organizers are asking that members of the hip-hop/youth/entertainment communities (including artists, business owners, photographers, promoters, etc) record short public service announcements about the need for unity and support within these communities…to make an impact for Haitian residents.

How do I feel about my area? Right now – NOT 2 HAPPY! I love the music out here, its crazy. I think that we’d give any area a go as far as lyricism, song content and overall TALENT! As far as the FOOLERY – I cant stamp that! In the past 2 wks I have seen some of the most shady dealings ever and this is coming from a person that was in a group and was left out of a major deal negotiation! It sad. We holding meetings now? For what? Unity? What are we unifying? As any family – we all dont have to necessarily care for what the other person is doin as long as we dont openly show the negativity. For instance, I got caught up in some ish a few years back, my mom didnt condone it but she didnt go around tellin the world her son was a menace to society. Every1 will not be loved (FACT) as long as you keep that you arent the biggest fan of the next person to yourself, in my eyes your cool. 2ndly, I and my good friend/favorite artist Champ Parker in the recent weeks have seen how FUGAZI some of the artists in the area really are? Ive worked with artists in Philly, NY, ATL, Phoneix, Chicago, NJ and Various areas of NC just to name a few and when we say we gonna get work done – we get work done! Not all of the let me holla at my manager or saying one thing and doing anotha w/ a beat or verse! Maybe we need some classes to teach ppl how to be real and honest?

There are way Way WAy WAY 2 many cliques, groups/entourages in this area! When is okay for someone 2 email, call, txt me and say they love my music but not fool with me cuz someone that they hang with doesnt like me for whatever reason! I mean come on – quit with the kids stuff – i didnt know we were still in High School. Im tryna make music, that what I love to do. I will continue to make it w/ or w/o the fickle fans. Truth be told – I now have great animosity for certain ppl and maybe im wrong for feeling that way but I cant deal with the fakeness. So much so that I had to call Gee (Music Is Life Magazine) and told her that I didnt know if i could continue with the mag. Y? Its all goes FULL CIRCLE! I refuse to be fake, I refuse to repost music, shows or interviews of artists who blatently disrespect! Not gonna do it!
